Sports in SA

Colleagues
I have been looking at the south african sports arena recently and more importantly Rugby, Cricket, Golf and other sporrts that were predominantly "white" sports. A ticket to watch rugby match is more than three times to the one of soccer, yet most of their games are sold out as compared to our beloved soccer. I know that a soccer ticket is R20 and still we don't fill up the stadia. The fact that the SAFA recently got a massive boost of a billion or so from selling their Tv rights needs to be applauded, however when one compares it to what the rugby guys are getting and even their sponsorships, it is a mere quarter of what the cricket and rugby is making. When the Smits and Smith of rugby and cricket are playing, the stadia or grounds are full and the tickets get sold out before time. These players of Rugby or even cricket are wealthy when you compaire them to our Tekos or Mphelas. When the rugby boys retire even without going oversees they are sought after individuals as compaired to our soccer stars. Mara why>? lets help our boys and to learn about the value of money while they still at school.

The Role of SADTU and NAPTOSA in schools

Colleagues
For the past several years post 1994, i have been questioning the role of unions in SA education system. I understand that as a member of the bagaining council, SADTU, NAPTOSA and other teacher unions debate issues before they are brought to the main stream where everyone has a right to comment. The question i have is that why is it that as a member of a union namely SADTU, i hear we are striking before the Branch or even the province has communicated with us? Recently as a member of SADTU, we were on strike and i heard it first on TV.
when it come to salary negotiotions, the employer will offer us a certain percentage and if we reject it, will unilaterally apply the offer, refer back to the then Ms Fraser Moleketi. The province who initiated the strike will earn their salary as it is because they don't get paid by the GDE and the poor members will face the deductions from the employer. Why is it that our unions don't invest our monthly contributions for incase we strike? If they were to cover our wages, it would be fair for both parties and it would give us more power. ARE our unions pushing their own mandate or ours? If ours, why is that we don't tell them to accept or reject offers but they tell us before we debate these offers? Guys, school me. Do Unions have real power to bring in meaningfull change ?

Learning in pictures

To colleagues
some of the comments that resulted in us discussing the pictures lessons was a result of what i posted on my site called durban trip. What i did is that i took my digital photos and make a movie about the three days i spent in durban with my friend Tumi. I learn doing this in this class by experimenting with those pictures. If you want to grab the children's attention, use what they too can use to involve them like their photos. You can teach HSS, LO, Mathematics, NS and other learning area with it. There is distance, geographical sites, measurement of those distances and safety at sea for LO. Try my site http://justimosatuj.blogspot.com/2009/07/life-as-educator-and-citizen_08.html#comments

My blog address is http://justimosatuj.blogspot.com/2009/07/life-as-educator-and-citizen_08.html#comments. There is a new website that i think you need to look at as members of the discource community. Its a site like skype which allows us to communicate almost freely using our computers. the site is www.ovu.com. It offers more options that skype does not have but google has. Its a combination of the two. check it out.

National Department on FET (Tertiary Institutions)

To my Colleagues
I am interested in finding out what the national department of education's role is in terms of the curricullum in these institutions. The reason for my question is that there is a lot of differences in terms of the curricullum in these institution. I did my ACE with UJ and at that time i knew someone who was doing the same course with Potch University. We were doing two entirely different content yet the course was the same. Presently i know some educators who are doing Honours with Wits and UNISA and the same situation is prevailing. I am also questioning the quality of the certificates we receiving in these institutions. Are they internationally recognised.

Life as an educator and a citizen

howeasy or difficult is being an educator, a private citizen and a part-time student? for me is a challenge. I teach grade 9; which has CTA and i also teach maths at grade 12. Its a challenge. Hope and believe one can meet this challenge. What are your views?

Re :Communication

The use of tools in communication can be a hindrance to progress and also a plus to progress. I am currently using my phone to view and comment on issues in my e-mail. Its a challenge. Other web sites we can find info from is need your phone to be loaded with softwares which can open some of the fikes and access the info. frankly we do need to upgrade our skills of using e-learning tools. My advice would be to spend money and time at internet cafees and using our phones as either modems or as a tool to get to surf the net.
